James Whitmore completed his undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at Manchester Metropolitan University before obtaining a Master's in Public Health from the University of Liverpool, where his research focused on behavioural interventions for nicotine addiction. He spent a decade working within NHS Stop Smoking Services, initially as a frontline advisor before progressing to service coordinator for three Greater Manchester boroughs. During his NHS tenure, James developed and implemented protocols for recommending vaping devices to smokers, following Public Health England's landmark 2015 review stating vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking. He has trained over 200 healthcare professionals on the evidence base supporting e-cigarettes as cessation tools and regularly contributes to NICE guideline consultations on tobacco harm reduction. James is passionate about translating complex scientific research into practical advice that helps smokers understand withdrawal symptoms, manage cravings, and successfully transition away from combustible tobacco. His writing addresses both the psychological and physiological aspects of nicotine dependence, drawing on thousands of real-world patient interactions. He remains actively involved with the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) and follows all emerging UK regulatory developments affecting vaping products.
